A 25-year-old Nairobi woman identified as Susan Njeri Wachiuri was on Thursday charged with murdering her boyfriend of two years in a tragic domestic incident which was reportedly caused by a squabble over who would wash the utensils after supper.

Appearing before Milimani High Court Judge James Wakiaga, Susan Njeri was accused of stabbing Kelvin Njenga Ng’ang’a 11 times using a knife when he visited her two days before the Easter weekend on April 9, 2020, at White House within Tena Estate in Nairobi.

According to the prosecution team, trouble started when the lovers had just enjoyed supper.

The scuffle is said to have later escalated during which Njeri allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed Kelvin, who succumbed to his injuries.

A video captured that same night shows a shaken and seemingly confused Susan stuttering and stammering as she struggles to answer questions from individuals presumed to be first responders at the scene.

In the clip circulating online, she fails to explain precisely how the argument turned into a full-blown physical brawl, insisting she can’t explain how Kelvin Njenga ended up with multiple stab injuries.

Meanwhile, the charges in court, the woman denied any wrongdoing insisting she was very innocent. She pleaded with the judge to release her on bond pending hearing of the case.

“I apply to be admitted to bond. Article 49 of the Constitution allows all suspects arraigned for any offence to be admitted to bond,” Susan pleaded.

Judge Wakiaga directed she make a formal bond application through the normal court procedures.

State prosecutor Wangui Gichuhi had asked the court to direct the suspect to file a formal application and written submissions for her response.

The court will resume on May 14 for hearing on whether or not Susan should be released.
