Before her appointment, Ms Kananu was the Chief Officer in the County Department of Disaster Management & Coordination.

Governor Sonko made the nomination in order to avert a looming crisis at City Hall after he was barred from accessing his office over corruption charges.

Tuesday, Governor Sonko had his way after an application by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions barring his decision to nominate a Deputy was quashed.

The Governor has been out of office together with his Kiambu and Samburu counterparts Ferdinand Waititu and Moses Lenolkulal.

Sonko was charged with misappropriating some Ksh 350 million, conflict of interest and money laundering at the County.

He has since denied all te charges and is out on a Ksh 15 million cash bail.
